for City of Gering Transfer Facility
under consideration by the
Nebraska Department of Water, Energy, and Environment
PUBLIC NOTICE is given in accordance with Title 132 - Integrated Solid Waste Management Regulations, Chapter 2, §011, that the Nebraska Department of Water, Energy, and Environment (DWEE) has received an application to modify the permit of City of Gering Transfer Facility a transfer station, 200531 West U Street, Gering, NE 69341. After reviewing the major modification permit application, a preliminary determination has been made to recommend issuance of construction approval and modification of the permit. The term of the permit shall be until April 15, 2032.
FACILITY DESCRIPTION. The permit allows the operation of an existing transfer station under Nebraska's solid waste management laws and regulations. The facility is a collection point for solid waste from the City of Gering and surrounding communities. Waste collected from the facility is transported to a permitted municipal solid waste landfill. The facility collects and bales recyclables. The facility may utilize the baler for municipal solid waste in emergency situations.
FACILITY LOCATION. The property is at 200531 West U Street, in the southwest part of the City of Gering on approximately 4 acres of property and is described as being the NW ¼ of the NE ¼, Section 3, Township 21N, Range 55 West of the 6th Principal Meridian, Scotts Bluff County Nebraska.
MAJOR MODIFICATION. This permit major modification allows the construction of a semi-trailer loadout addition to the west side of the existing building, which includes a concrete pit. Also included is a concrete area outside of the building with a sanitary inlet, lift station and sand/oil separator to deal with leachate from transfer trailer and roll-off storage. The instillation of doors on the west side of the existing structure, to access the trailer pit building area, will also occur. The name of the facility has also changed.
OPPORTUNITY FOR PUBLIC COMMENT AND HEARING. The public may submit written comments and may also request a public hearing on the permitting decision. A request for a hearing must be made in writing and state the issues proposed for discussion and their relation to the proposed permit renewal. The DWEE will make a final decision to renew or deny the permit based on the permit application, the compliance status of City of Gering Transfer Facility a transfer station, and public comment received. DWEE will notify the applicant and other interested persons.
COMMENT PERIOD. All comments or requests for a hearing must be postmarked by Tuesday, July 7th, 2026.
