Well and Septic Loan Evaluation Program
NOTICE: Due to the recent passage of LB759, the state will no longer provide a Well and Septic Loan Evaluation Program effective July 18, 2026. The application is still open, and DWEE will accept applications until July 1, 2026. In Nebraska, inspections of onsite wastewater treatment systems must be completed by a certified professional. A registry of certified onsite inspectors can be found on the Onsite Wastewater Program webpage.
Staff conduct evaluations of domestic water supplies and onsite wastewater treatment systems at the request of home owners, purchasers, or mortgage lending institutions. Many lenders require an inspection of the onsite water and wastewater treatment systems for compliance with applicable State of Nebraska regulations prior to granting a loan. During the evaluation, staff visually inspect the water well and the onsite wastewater treatment system and collect water samples to test for bacteria and nitrates.
