The Nebraska Department of Environment and Energy (DWEE) compiles, maintains, and publishes energy statistics on the production and consumption of energy in the state of Nebraska as part of the agency’s State Energy Program.

The statistics are valuable to public and private sectors as they inform Nebraskans, researchers, and decision-makers on energy in the state.

Data used in the statistics originates from state and federal agencies, the University of Nebraska - Lincoln, associations, utilities, cities, and private industries.

The state has issued a health alert for Harmful Algal Blooms (HAB), also known as toxic blue-green algae, at Maple Creek Recreation Area Lake in Colfax County.

Calamus Reservoir in Garfield County has been removed from health alert after being on alert last week.

Samples taken earlier this week at the lake on alert measure above the threshold of 8 parts per billion (ppb) of total microcystin, which is a toxin released by certain strains of blue-green algae.

DWEE awards nearly $900,000 in Revitalize Rural Nebraska Grants

LINCOLN, Neb. — The Nebraska Department of Environment and Energy (DWEE) has announced the award of $898,139 in grants to support nine projects that will demolish dilapidated commercial properties across the state.

The funds are provided through the Revitalize Rural Nebraska grant program. DWEE received applications from 15 communities during the application period earlier this year.

All About DWEE: Mineral Exploration Program

The Nebraska Department of Environment and Energy (DWEE) administers the Mineral Exploration program. The Mineral Exploration program is a separate program from DWEE’s Underground Injection Control (UIC) program and regulates under authority of different titles.

The Mineral Exploration program reviews and issues permits, conducts inspections, and performs compliance reviews for holes drilled, driven, bored, or dug for the specific purpose of mineral exploration. All mineral exploration permits are geared toward the protection of groundwater.
