About the Water Planning Division
Planning partnerships
The Water Planning Division works with Nebraska’s unique system of natural resources districts to develop local and basin-wide integrated water management plans to sustain a balance between water supplies and uses and to protect the rights of existing water users.
Interstate agreements
The Water Planning Division ensures Nebraska meets its obligations agreed to in a number of interstate water compacts, decrees, and agreements approved by participating state legislatures and/or Congress.

Water science education
The Water Planning Division educates water managers and the public about local and basin-wide integrated management plans; interstate water compacts, decrees and agreements; hydrologically connected groundwater and surface water; the State’s water resources and demands; and other related issues. Technical analysis
The Water Planning Division provides technical analysis and support for decision making using tools such as remote sensing, groundwater modeling and GIS.
