Nebraska's Total Energy Consumption by End-Use Sector
Energy Page
In 2023, the industrial sector consumed nearly half (44 percent) of Nebraska's total energy consumption. The other three end–use sectors comprised relatively equal portions of Nebraska's total energy consumption. Twenty–four (24) percent of the energy consumed in Nebraska was used in the transportation sector. The residential sector consumed 16 percent, and the commercial sector consumed 16 percent (Figure 1).

Motor Gasoline and Ethanol-Blended Fuel Consumption in Nebraska
Energy Page
The total of both motor gasoline consumption and ethanol-blended fuel consumption in 2025 was less than one percent (0.15%) lower than in 2024.
Total consumption of motor gasoline and ethanol–blended fuel in the month of December 2025 was 76,761,271 gallons, which was 4.3 percent higher than the previous month but was almost the same amount as December 2024.
December 2025's consumption was at the upper boundary of the five–year range, above the five–year average, and relatively the same as December 2024's (last year's) consumption. (Figure 1)
Consumption per Dollar of Nebraska’s Gross State Product

Energy intensity is the ratio of energy input per unit of economic output, or the amount of energy used to produce a dollar's worth of goods and services. This measures the energy efficiency of the state's economy.
