Annual Average Electricity Price Comparison by State
Nebraska is the only state that generates electricity entirely by publicly–owned power systems. As of 2024, Nebraska's average electricity price was the third–lowest rate in the country, based on the latest federal figures. (In the table below, states are ranked so that equivalent prices are ranked at the same level.) Nationally, electricity cost 30 percent more than it did in Nebraska. Across all sectors, Hawaii had the highest electricity rate (38 cents), and North Dakota had the lowest electricity rate (7.93 cents).
