Natural gas production has been falling since 2008, which was the year that natural gas production peaked at 3,083,488 thousand cubic feet.

From 2008 to 2012, Chase County was the leader of all the counties in natural gas production. In 2013, Cheyenne County overtook Chase County. In 2014, Chase County stopped producing natural gas.
