Natural Gas Production in Nebraska
Natural gas production in 2025 was 243.6 million cubic feet in Nebraska. This was a decrease of 14.3 percent from the 2024 production of 284.2 million cubic feet. The record high was in the year 1960 when 28,190 million (28.2 billion) cubic feet of natural gas was produced.
An historical production increase was from 2007 to 2008. Natural gas production in 2008 was 3.1 billion cubic feet, nearly double the production (98 percent) from 2007 when production was 1.6 billion cubic feet. The production increase in 2008 was due to high natural gas prices.
In 2021, Nebraskans consumed 180.1 billion cubic feet of natural gas. Consumption is not available for more recent years. Nebraska's natural gas production in 2021 was 326.8 million (0.33 billion) cubic feet which represented only 0.18 percent of the natural gas consumed in the state.
